Brian "Barry" Pollard's experience as a grassroots citizen advocate, entrepreneur and Human Resource (HR) professional provided managerial skills and insights that will serve him well on the City Council. His values, integrity, independence, consensus building skills, and genuine concern for his community offer an alternative to a status quo characterized by inadequate services, resources, advocacy and leadership.

Barry Pollard is a San Diego native with deep roots in Southeastern San Diego, having attending St. Rita's Elementary School and Morse High School. Barry received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and has owned and operated a recruiting firm specializing in the Electronics industry for more than 15 years. Prior to starting his firm, Barry worked in HR for companies in Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Baltimore.

Barry, a life-long Democrat, was appointed by former Mayor Maureen O'Connor to the Mayor's Small Business Advisory Board. He worked in her campaign and used his business, finance and managerial expertise to advocate increased opportunities for emerging businesses.

As a single parent of three daughters, Barry worked at the grassroots level to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program in his community, and to address traffic safety and code compliance issues. Barry understands that empowered citizens can make a difference in their communities.

For more than 5 years, Barry has spearheaded a volunteer project that feeds 700 homeless San Diegans at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He is also involved in efforts to mentor youth and prepare them for a productive future. He is a proponent of community gardens and other projects that promote wellness and address health issues in communities of color.

Barry's goal is to unify our community and provide real leadership on issues that impact the lives of District 4 residents. Barry is committed to:

(1)Assure economic development efforts in the 4th District reflect land use planning responsive to the needs of citizens.

(2)Work collaboratively with non-profits, educational institutions and funding agencies to provide job training and reduce unemployment.

(3)Attract business investment in the 4th District and jobs that pay wages that support families.

(4)Assure City services and resources are equitably delivered to 4th District residents.

(5)Support the development of youth programs that encourage academic achievement, job readiness and self-sufficiency.

(6)Maintain open and ongoing communication with residents, businesses and other community stakeholders -- and assure responsiveness in addressing citizen concerns.
