Humberto Peraza is one of a new generation of leaders in San Diego working to make our county a better place to live, work and raise a family. After more than a decade of community service, Humberto has made a real difference in the lives of the people in his hometown of Chula Vista and beyond.

Humberto currently works as Senior Policy Advisor to San Diego Council President Ben Hueso. He previously served as District Chief of Staff for Congressman Bob Filner for four and a half years, helping local communities secure federal funding for transportation and other community projects. In that role, Humberto assisted Filner on many crucial policy issues in the South Bay. Through his successful work for the Filner office, Humberto has developed expertise and extensive knowledge of issues such as Chula Vista bayfront development, regional energy planning, health care services and border issues such as rebuilding the San Ysidro port of entry.

Appointed by the Mayor of Chula Vista, Humberto is currently a member of the Chula Vista Charter Review Commission. As a Commissioner, he has worked to toughen term limits for city officials and to reform campaign finance laws.

Prior to joining Congressman Filner's staff, Humberto worked for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, leading her outreach to the Latino community. He also directed her local outreach in San Diego and served as a liaison to cities seeking federal funding for priority local projects, including economic development projects.

Humberto spent several years working on Capitol Hill in Washington, becoming an expert in federal grants and the federal government appropriation process while working for Congressman Xavier Becerra. He also served as the Congressman's official representative to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

An energetic volunteer, Humberto is the former Vice President of the League of Conservation Voters of San Diego, which promotes a healthy environment and open space for the greater San Diego region. He also serves on the board of Move San Diego, building support for healthy and convenient transportation systems, and on the Planned Parenthood Board of Directors, working to provide health services to women and families.

Humberto attended public schools in San Diego and graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor's degree in political science. Family is Humberto's top priority. Weekends are often spent in East Chula Vista with his wife Lisa and their two sons, Ben and Dylan. Humberto coaches his son Ben's T‐ball team, the Chula Vista White Sox and the Wolverines soccer team. Humberto and his family attend Eastlake Community Church.
