Candidate for
Council Member; City of Oceanside

My name is Charles "Chuck" Lowery and I want to be your new councilmember. I promise to be Fiscally Conservative, Politically Moderate and Independent.

Whether you have lived in Oceanside all your life as I have or have come more recently, we all want the same things- a prosperous community with good jobs, safe neighborhoods, good schools, parks and recreation for our children and safe senior communities.

We all want a City Council that puts citizens first and doesn't embarrass us with petty squabbling. When elected, I will fight for Oceanside residents and work cooperatively with other councilmembers. I will work to lead Oceanside through this very challenging time.

While growing up in Oceanside I went to St. Mary's School, graduated from Oceanside High and MiraCosta College. From there I went to the School of Business at San Diego State. I have been a businessman all my adult life and recently sold the bakery I founded 22 years ago to devote myself to community service. As a homeowner and investor in our community, I understand the need for a safe and prosperous Oceanside.

I'm a family man with a lovely daughter and two grandchildren. I recently funded a student-centered gang prevention program in Oceanside and Camp Pendleton schools. Our children..ALL children... deserve to grow up in a safe Oceanside.

As the son of a World War II veteran, I will always support Oceanside vets, the Veteran's Association of North County and Interfaith Veteran's Services.

As former president of the Oceanside Coastal Neighborhood Association (OCNA) I worked to bring the best projects to Oceanside. I currently serve on the Oceanside Arts Commission and I'm ready to be a councilmember who listens to citizens.

It's time to stop wasting money on expensive consultants whose advice we can no longer afford. Oceanside should use that money to create more full-time jobs, not just temporary ones. I'll make sure that when Oceanside does things, they are done right and done cost-effectively.

I will remember our senior citizens who deserve to live their remaining years safely and comfortably. That means I support senior status neighborhoods, and current rent control laws for mobile home parks.

Libraries, services for kids, seniors programs, and public safety should continue during this tough economic time. If more cuts have to be made, we MUST be careful what we cut.

Were you surprised when the council majority proposed cuts to our paramedics? I was angry! Oceanside paramedics saved my mother's life when she fell. I'm running NOW because we all deserve to have a trained paramedic come quickly when we need one, whether for yourself or a loved one.

We must work together!

We can get through this budget crisis. We can make Oceanside an even better place to live! I'm Charles "Chuck" Lowery and I ask for your vote on June 8th. (Vote-by-mail May 10th)
