Candidate for
City Attorney; City of Chula Vista

This information is provided by the candidate

As Chula Vista City Attorney I would emphasize three core values:

The first is Honesty:

I believe that citizens are entitled to honesty from their elected officials and the public servants whom they employ. Honesty should be at the core of what we do as attorneys and as public servants. All too often it is not. As your City Attorney I will bring with me the same values of honesty and integrity that I practice every day at the Sheriff's Department and as I did as a prosecutor. I will work tirelessly to restore the trust and confidence that you should have in your elected officials.

The second value that I will work to promote is Independence.

You have asked for a City Attorney who is independent from the Council and City Officials. I come to this election as THE candidate qualified to be that independent City Attorney.

I have no ties to the City of Chula Vista that would cause someone to worry about the appearance of impropriety or bias. I have not been endorsed by any member of the City Council nor have I been endorsed by any City Official. Which means the legal advice that I will provide them will be based on the law as I view it, and not tainted by any sense of obligation or loyalty.

But a truly independent city attorney should also not be beholden to special interests either. To that end, I am not endorsed by, nor have I sought the endorsement of, either major political party.

My only desire is to provide good solid unbiased legal advice that your elected officials can count on and that you as citizens deserve.

The final value that I will emphasize as City Attorney is Open Government.

As your independently elected city attorney I promise to broadly interpret any statue, court rule or other authority that furthers your right of access to information concerning the conduct of the people's business. I will also narrowly interpret any statute, ordinance or court ruling that limits your right of access to information concerning the conduct of the people's business.

If you are looking for a City Attorney who recognizes that you are my most important client, then I would ask for your support now and your vote on June 8th.
