Statement of LAURIE SMITH, Candidate for
Sheriff

Occupation: Sheriff, County of Santa Clara
Education and Qualifications:
Tough times demand proven leadership. That's why I'm running for re-election.
As public revenues decline, it is imperative that we maintain the strong fiscal and management practices we have established, and I pledge to do so.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is nationally recognized as a preeminent law enforcement agency, distinguished for public service and the highest standards of integrity.
As an acknowledged leader in law enforcement, I've been privileged to serve as President of the California State Sheriffs' Association and was appointed by two Governors to the prestigious State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST).
The Sheriff's Office is committed to preserving the strong community relationships and trust we have earned in keeping our residents safe. We are dedicated to keeping our children out of gangs, off drugs and in school, and to protecting our most vulnerable from predators intent on crime and abuse.
I'm proud to have broad bipartisan support, including every member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
After 35 years of protecting the public I am still energized and eager to serve the residents of Santa Clara County. Together we can continue to provide exceptional public service even in these difficult times. I ask for your vote.
