From 1965 to 1972, I served as Public Information Officer for the Cerritos Community College District in Norwalk, and as President of the California School Employees Association (CSEA, representing 104 non-certificated employees.

Leaving the college, I began employment with the City of Anaheim for 12 years, starting as the assistant public information officer. In 1978 I was promoted to PIO, serving as the spokesperson for all 14 major departments within the City, including the City Manager's Office, police and fire departments, parks and recreation, library, public utilities and public works, and the Convention Center and Stadium department. I prepared proclamations and resolutions on behalf of the Council, made public presentations before local groups about the City of Anaheim, and supervised a staff of six writers and photographers. In this role, I attended all City Council meetings and many Department Head meetings.

In 1979, I was one of the founders of Event Medical Services, Inc. -- a firm which provided comprehensive on-site professional first aid and medical services at events and public assembly facilities throughout California. In 1988, we opened branches in San Diego and San Jose. I was elected President of the Board and started on a full-time basis with the firm in 1983, leaving my relationship with the City of Anaheim. Our company provided nurses, physicians and emergency medical technicians at more than 3,500 events each year. This division of our company was closed in 2005. Our firm now specializes in the sale of emergency medical supplies and equipment to police and fire agencies, ambulance companies and paramedic squads as well as industrial clinics

I was responsible for bringing Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) into the County of Orange in 1996, becoming the first private agency to implement the use of these life-saving devices at public assembly facilities (such as the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Orange County Fair). At that time, five public agencies were using AED's. Today, more than 35 public and private agencies are equipped with AED's. In February, 2002, the Orange County EMS Agency awarded me the "EMS Advocacy Award" for this effort.

I am Chairman of the Regional Military Affairs Committee for the Joint Forces Training Base; a Board Member for the Chamber of Commerce and sit on two committees: RMAC and the West Orange County Legislative. I also serve on the Board of Directors for our Youth Center, as Vice President for Community Activies. We have participated in the Band in the Park programs each year, the Every 15 Minutes assembly at the High School and I've been one of the barbeque "chef's" for the Grad Night Parties at the High School for the past three years. I have been secretary of the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club and served as Club President in 2007-2008. My wife is also a Rotarian and is a member of the e-Club.

I was a member of the Traffic Commission in Los Alamitos, from 2002 until 2005 and was Chairman of the Commission in 2004 and 2005. In 2003, I became one of 19 local residents to graduate the 10-week Citizen Police Academy, offered by the Police Department. The City Council appointed me to serve on the Economic Development Committee to research ways to increase business activity and retention within the City. I was a member of the Los Alamitos Citizens Advisory Committee for then Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva (Second District)who has become our Assemblyman. I particiapte in quarterly meetings with the Remediation Advisory Board (RAB) at the Joint Forces Training Base.

I am honored and humbled to have been elected to the City Council in 2006, and being appointed by my colleagues in 2008 to serve as Mayor (during 2009). I made an mistake in sending out an unsensitive email in Feb. 2009, which created a nation-wide uproar casting our community in poor light. After six days of threats and attacks, I chose to resign my leadership role as Mayor and subsequently as a Council member in order to restore a semblance of normalcy to our community. I apologized for my error in judgement and regret causing such negative focus. I accepted responsibility for my actions and have moved forward, remaining active in my community endeavors and in networking that began with my role as a public servant.

My wife Wendy, graduated in 2002 with her Master's Degree in Nursing from UCLA. She is now a nurse practitioner with the Cypress Family Medical Group, currently located in Los Alamitos adjacent to the Hospital. She is also certified as a critical care and emergency nurse and in advanced cardiac life support. She is an active member of the Precious Life Shelter, which Event Medical Services is a financial sponsor. Our children have grown and we have been married for nine years this November. We also have six beautiful grand children. Our pride and joy is Kody, our five year old Yorkshire Terrier.
