Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Richard Faher

Candidate for
Supervisor; County of Orange; Supervisorial District 4

This information is provided by the candidate

How can an elected official who has accepted campaign money from public employee unions, negotiate with the same unions that just helped them get elected? And by negotiating, I do not mean: "Where do I sign?" The answer is: They don't.

Richard Faher is the only candidate for the 4th District Orange County Board of Supervisors who has never solicited or accepted any money from public employee unions. All of the other candidates have accepted money from public employee unions and have granted large salary increases and/or large pension benefits. These large public employee union increases have driven Orange County into a financial crisis.

In 2002, the Fullerton City Council passed a large pension increase called "3 percent at 50" for public safety workers. Later, the other non safety public employees union also received large immediate pay increases. The annual financial report for the city of Fullerton for the fiscal year ended June 30th 2009 shows an unfunded actuarial accrued liability of $76.1 million. This number represents the amount of money the City of Fullerton does not have to meet its future pension obligations. The annual financial report for the City of Anaheim for the fiscal year ended June 30th 2009 shows an unfunded actuarial accrued liability of $301 million.

At the county level, there is a $3.1 billion unfunded actuarial accrued liability. That's "B" for billion. On February 9th, 2010, the Orange County Supervisors approved a new three year contract agreement with the Sheriff's union. Once again this new deal does nothing to reduce the $3.1 billion dollar unfunded actuarial accrued liability. Supervisor John Moorlach cast the lone vote against the deal. Richard Faher would have also voted against that deal.

Wouldn't you like your best interests to be represented instead of the public employee unions who control both sides of the negotiating table?

With your generous support, Richard Faher will work tirelessly to get elected and give Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach some help. Will you join me in this effort? Please go to http://www.richardfaher.com to see more information on issues that are important to Orange County's taxpayers.

Although the council members who granted these large salary and pension benefit increases are losing favor with the 4th district, these council members + backed by special interests, trial lawyers, and unions + still enjoy an edge in fundraising and will have plenty to spend on this upcoming election. This is why your support of my candidacy is so important. Your generous contribution of $25, $35, $50, $100, $250, $1000, or even $1700 will help. Please contribute online immediately at http://www.richardfaher.com. If you have any questions, please visit the above website or don't hesitate to call my campaign office at 714-996-5871.

I believe the Orange County $3.1 billion unfunded liability is the most important issue facing the county. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Richard Faher Candidate Orange County Board of Supervisors 4th District 2040 Jeffrey Circle, Placentia CA 92870 ID# 1323444 Tel: 714-996-5871 http://www.richardfaher.com
