I was born on August 12, 1958 in Baltimore, MD to Richard and Farigene Hammock I have two brothers, Donald (53) and Michael (49), both of whom currently reside in San Diego. My father passed away in 2001, while my mother is retired and currently living in Las Vegas.

My childhood was relatively normal except to the extent that both of my parents were deaf/hearing impaired. As a result of being raised in this environment, I am fluent in American Sign Language and I believe that I have a unique understanding and appreciation of people with disabilities.

My family and I moved to San Diego in late 1969, where I graduated from James Madison High School (1976), San Diego State University (1980) and the University of San Diego, School of Law (1983).

I moved from San Diego to the Los Angeles area in 1985, and I have resided here since that time. I currently live in the Rancho Park area with my wife Joanna, and my son, Tyler (18), who is a recently graduated from LACES High School in Los Angeles and has now started college.

Between work and raising my son, my interests and hobbies involve playing Bridge (I am currently a Silver Life Master), as well as playing Golf and Basketball on a regular basis. I am in excellent health.

In the recent past I have been quite active in community and charitable work, including my work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in the Dependency Court, my extensive past involvement as the chief legal counsel for the Board of Directors for my son's school, as well as my considerable pro bono legal work on behalf of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists
