Contra Costa County, CA June 8, 2010 Election
Smart Voter Political Philosophy for George Van Hasselt

Candidate for
Member, Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of Contra Costa; Supervisorial District 5

This information is provided by the candidate

  • As a Democratic Progressive, I firmly believe that government should exist to serve and promote the interests of the working and disadvantaged people and not the top one percent of the elite.

  • As an East County resident for nearly 22 years, I want our voice to be heard and to stop the more affluent areas in Central County from treating us as their "stepchild".

  • The major purpose of any major political organization should be very simple: TO WIN ELECTIONS! No matter how beneficial a candidate's programs may be, if he/she does not get elected, he/she will not have the opportunity to implement them.

  • Any political organization's main focus should be to help get their candidates elected by actively registering voters and campaigning. If all an organization does is to hold periodic meetings and/or social gatherings, it may as well be a social club.

  • A politician who gets elected should be actively involved in community issues and respond to the Electorate's needs. He/she should not disappear between campaigns and merely "show up" at Election time to ask for votes.
