An independent voice for the Democratic Party

Anthony Hardy Williams knows that the Democratic Party long has prided itself on being the collective voice for the people, for those in need, for those striving for the American Dream. It was the party that spoke for the parents working first-, second- and sometimes third-shifts to earn enough to afford a good home in a safe neighborhood and send their kids to school so they could do even better. These are basic principles. And it's about time we move back to those basics, because increasingly, citizens across this Commonwealth and nation are hurting.

It should never be acceptable to just watch high school students dropping out en masse, or shrug collective shoulders when those who do graduate find themselves without the necessary skills to go forward and secure a job -- with or without a college degree. Nor should shoveling money into murkily defined programs but clearly expanding our debt service. Or squeezing small businesses with arcane tax structures and regulations. This is not "for the good of the people." Those aren't the values he grew up with. His was an independent Democratic household that placed value on responsibility, frugality and hard work. These are values he wants restored, because for too many communities across Pennsylvania, subpar schools, systemic and chronic unemployment and shuttered storefronts have hampered even a glimmer of a dream of a better future, robbing not just one generation but several. That can change with this election, if Anthony Hardy Williams is elected governor.
