By Ira Hoffman

Candidate for US Representative; District 8; Republican Party

My letter to you explaining why we must act now, and why I am the best person to represent you!
THE TIME IS NOW!

It is time for Americans to elect representatives who can lead our nation to fiscal accountability and stability. It is time for Americans to elect representatives who understand federalism and will restrict the federal government to its constitutional powers. It is time for Americans to elect representatives who state their beliefs and principles before the election, and who have the backbone to stand for their principles.

America is now at a crossroads. We have been at crossroads before but this time the stakes include the prosperity and security of our nation, now and for future generations. The issues we face are our dismal government finances, the over-reach of the federal government beyond its constitutional powers, and elected leaders who do not know what they stand for.

First, consider our dismal government finances. The U.S. will borrow three trillion dollars during President Obama's first two years and projections show one trillion dollar deficits the rest of the decade. We must end this fiscal insanity. We will only succeed when we elect congressmen who have the skill and experience to deal effectively and boldly with spending and finances. All issues facing our great nation include significant financial considerations. When was the last time you went to a lawyer or a career politician for advice on finance or budgetary matters?

Second, consider the unconstitutional over-reach of the federal government into our personal and economic freedoms. You need a representative who will take action to cease the unconstitutional federal over-reach that is destroying our businesses, jobs, energy independence, education system, and health care. How often do career politicians claim that the federal government is beyond its constitutional powers and is usurping rights and freedoms from you and the states?

Third and last, consider if any of your congressmen have been explicit about their policy positions before you vote. Chances are they have never been so. It is in the nature of politicians to take the middle road and promise differently to each group so they do not alienate any voters. Can we afford more of this lack of commitment and clarity at this crossroads?

I know I am the best candidate to represent you as U.S. Congressman in the 8th district, and here is why.

  • I am a deeply experienced businessman and am well educated in engineering, business management, and finance. My career as a senior manager and team leader in global manufacturing taught me to deliver value to the business and its customers, and to seek continual improvement to products, operations and costs. All of this was expected to be done on-time and within a stated budget. These are skills that I will apply as your representative and which are sorely needed in Washington.
  • I want to put the federal government back inside its `bottle' of enumerated constitutional powers. I am not prejudiced by previous public service or legal training to subconsciously think that the proper role of government is to create more laws so that government can best secure our prosperity. To the contrary, as a businessman and private citizen I value limited government, involved only to secure our freedoms and regulate where meaningful. I have no career of public service and I am not blinded by experience or legal training that makes me want to enact more laws. For example, I stand firmly against `cap and trade' and `card check' legislation because each represents an unconstitutional power grab by the federal government, in addition to being unsound policy to boot.
  • My values and policy positions in all areas are explicit. I have documented them on my campaign website and declare them in my speeches and interviews. I hope that you will require all candidates who get your vote to explicitly declare their values and positions before election day.

I humbly ask you to consider me as your U.S. congressman of the 8th district. I will bring new and bold ideas to Washington, rooted in personal, business and government accountability, in limited and constitutional government, and in economic freedom. The time is now!
