Candidate for
School Director; Pottstown School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have been a resident of Pottstown for 22 years. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from Gwynedd-Mercy College and a MBA in Accounting from St. Joseph's University. I have triplet 16 year olds (two boys and a girl) that are currently in 10th grade at Pottstown High School. I work in King of Prussia as a LeanSigma Black Belt + In-house process improvement consultant for MDS Pharma Services. I am the current President of the Pottstown School Board We could live anywhere, but we chose to raise our children in Pottstown and educate them through the Pottstown School District.

Pottstown School District is very concerned about the safety of our children. There is a fine line; however in ensuring the safety of our children and creating restrictive environments of fear instead of open environments conducive to learning. We have an attentive and active school administration that work well and in close collaboration with the Pottstown Police. We are also blessed to have our schools full of teachers fostering trust in their students. That this strategy is working and working well was evident during the unfortunate incident late last fall when through the successful combined efforts of school officials, the Pottstown Police Department, and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, a potential tragedy was averted. The caring and dedicated individuals who took part in this incident truly hold the safety and wellbeing of our children and staff as their priority.

Pottstown School District recognizes that not every student will go to college. We are the only school in the area that accommodates different career directions by combining the best of both educational worlds...Academics as well as Career & Technical Education under one roof. The Pottstown School District seeks to integrate both of these educational paths. In our Career & Technical Education programs children are provided the following:

  • to receive a Pennsylvania Skills Certificate + testing is performed in the High School for eligible children,
  • participate in the Tech Prep programs + allowing children to successfully join the work force after High School and/or continue on to higher education
  • participate in Internships
  • participate in career shadowing
  • participate in Cooperative Education + allowing children to begin working in their chosen field while completing their high School Course work

During my term as a School Board director, I have been a firm advocate of continuing and expanding our Career & Technical Education programs to meet the changing needs of our community and provide expanded employment opportunities for our students.

A conscientious school director never favors one school, one group of parents, or one neighborhood. In Pottstown, that means focusing one's thoughts on what is the best course of action for all of the children and all of Pottstown's citizens.

Why am I running for Pottstown School Board? Why am I willing to volunteer my time and energy? I believe in Public Education. I believe that every child has value, every child deserves equal chances and opportunities. I believe that every student should have a safe school to attend...schools that are well repaired, welcoming, energizing places to learn. I believe that a good education is not just teaching a child to read and to count. A good education does need a solid base of both of those, but a good education also includes giving children the ability to think logically, reason clearly, opportunities to discover the wonders of music, the joy in art, and the spirit that is found by participating in team sports and clubs. These are the qualities that are required for developing productive, contributing citizens; assets to Pottstown. I want to be part of that and to be a contributing Pottstown citizen .

Come into the Pottstown Schools and watch our children grow. See how your tax dollars are being put to use. Tour our facilities; view the way the children are being taught. When you see learning in action you will understand why I am proud of what I have helped to accomplish and why I would like to continue as a School Board Director in Pottstown School District
