Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Joan M. Kellett

Candidate for
School Director At Large; Upper Merion Area School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I am basically conservative but feel that the enviable tax base in Upper Merion can provide the best in teacher qualifications, the best facilities, the best technology, and the best support staff. However, it is the family who is the first teacher and it is the family who must support an atmosphere of respect and accept the discipline standards of the administration and faculty. It is the family who must work in concert with the administration and faculty and it is the school board who gives the support to the staff to maintain high standards of discipline. We can learn from other cultures who encourage and support academic achievement, those who do not make excuses for failure and truancy. I believe that students learn in different modalities, have varied interests and talents and that we should do our best to meet those needs. I am a firm believer in physical activity for our youth and I heartily support athletics as a part of the basic educational plan. My own participation in the theatre groups attests to my belief in promotion of the arts among the youth.
