Why I Am Running for the Office of Magisterial District Judge

By Donna Haas

Candidate for Judge; Magisterial District Court; District 38-1-06

This information is provided by the candidate
Our community needs and deserves a district judge who gives 100% of her professional time and attention to the court, for whom judicial business is her priority, and who will be free from conflicts of interest. I am the only candidate who will give 100% of her professional time and attention to this position and I will not maintain a private law practice while serving as your district judge. The status quo is not good enough.

As a long-time resident of Lower Merion, I have a strong sense of duty and obligation to fill a void in the community. I am eminently qualified, ready and would be honored to serve as your District Judge. During the course of any given day, people seek me out to say `thank you' for stepping up and working to bring a fresh outlook, new ideas and, most importantly, an honest and full professional commitment to the office of Magisterial District Judge. They, too, feel that the status quo is not good enough and that the times require more.

There is no entitlement to this office and people deserve a choice for change. Fear does not bring progress and the voters know better than to succumb to fear. We rejected campaigns based on fear and elected President Obama.

Speaking recently on the subject of selecting judges, President Obama said that the most important consideration in choosing a judge for the U.S. Supreme Court is the confidence that she or he will protect those who are not connected, those who are outsiders. And President Obama said that the best candidate may even be someone who has never a judge before, but rather someone who is in touch with society and its needs. The same applies to our local court. I am the candidate with integrity, independence, and I am in touch.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 19th and I respectfully ask for your vote.
