Questions & Answers

1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

I have lived in Ward Four all of my life. I have an accounting background and I am a conservative that is proud of my record on Norwood City Council. We must maintain a balanced budget to survive these times.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

We must diligently monitor our finances and continue to provide a balanced budget. We must continue to request police community involvement with programs such as Neighborhood Watch and the Drug Tip Line. Public safety must continue to improve. We must continue to use professional selection of the streets earmarked for improvement within the city. We promised $400,000 per year in street improvement funding and we must continue that and look for funding for projects such as the Marion Avenue project.

3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit)

We need to begin a marketing campaign to highlight the location of the City of Norwood as the center of Hamilton County. We need to find developers to rehab the US Playing Card building and encourage Xavier University to begin their eastern campus project. We must maintain a balanced budget in the face of dwindling earnigns tax revenues caused by the departure of some major employers.

4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards? (100 word limit)

Strict enfocement of our building codes and inspections is of primary immportance. We must also continue to pursue the rehab or demolition of vacanct properties. In the past two years we have seen the demolition of eleven vacant buildings either by the City of Norwood or by property owners who could not complete orders written on their property by the building department. This sends a message to absentee landlords that we will not tolerate inadequate building maintenance.
