Questions & Answers

1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

24-year Resident; Current Council Member; Ways and Means Committee Chair; Member - Public Safety Committee & Public Improvements & Facilities Committee; Liaison - Economic Development Commission, Environmental Awareness Board, Parks & Recreation Commission.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

With colleagues on Council and staff, I plan to protect as much as possible public services during these challenging economic times and to preserve our ability to attract and retain business in our community through the use of targeted incentives and tax increment financing that has attracted millions of dollars of investment in our community.

3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit)

The budget process is currently taking place in the city and cuts need to be made to account for decreased revenue resulting from the downturn in the economy and the underperformance of Cincinnati Mall. These cuts will continue over the next few years, but I support the protection of vital services in the community. While the city has operated efficiently for years, we do need to look at creative ways to enhance revenue if we intend to continue providing current services to residents.

4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards? (100 word limit)

Approximately three years ago Council passed an ordinance requiring rental owners to submit to outside property inspections. Council at that time did not move to require rental owners to submit to inside property inspections, but left open the possibility that it might at some time move in that direction. I believe the Council might be receptive to move in that direction if there were evidence of the need to do that.
