COUNCILMEMBER Y. LAKETA COLE

I am a graduate of Cincinnati Public Schools where I attended Aiken High School, and Wittenberg University where I received a B.A. in Political Science. I am currently working on my Masters in Public Administration. I have worked in City Hall as a Legislative Aide since 1997. I was first elected onto Council in 2003, and then again in 2005 where I am currently a City Councilmember and President Pro Tempore of City Council.

I have kept my promise on neighborhood/economic development by: · Creating the Neighborhood Business District Support Fund · Co-sponsoring a motion that TIF Districts be created in West Price Hill, Price Hill, East Price Hill, Lower Price Hill and Westwood · Voting for a motion to put together an integrated attack team to focus on blight in Price Hill · Hosting a Neighborhood Walk in Price Hill which resulted in TIF funds being used to abate a blighted building

I have kept my promise to work for our youth through: · Sponsoring the Cole Train Rec Pass and Pool Pass Programs, enabling our youth to take advantage of our recreation centers · Spearheading an additional $1 million for youth violence prevention · Fighting for $1.5 million for youth job development in the 2007-2008 budget so our children have the skills to hold the jobs of the future · Co-Sponsoring a motion that the City Administration work with the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) Committee to begin the process of developing a strategic plan to reduce gun violence in Cincinnati

I have kept my promise to increase access to City Hall by: · Continuing my Neighborhood Walk program and by hosting one meeting of the Vibrant Neighborhoods Committee of Council per month in the community · Hosting a Neighborhood in the Neighborhoods Meeting at Westwood Towne Hall · Sponsoring a motion to hold one Council meeting per month in the evening to increase access for people who work during the day

In order to continue to keep my promise to the citizens of Cincinnati, I need your help to get re-elected in November in an increasingly competitive field. With your help, the Cole Train will keep steaming to City Hall, and I will be able to keep my promise for 2007 and beyond. Thank you very much.
