November 2009 Candidate's Ballot Statement for Virginia Chang Kiraly
VIRGINIA CHANG KIRALY

Occupation: Economic Development Commissioner

Education and Qualifications: B.A., Government & Economics, University of Texas, Austin

The Sequoia Union High School District provides excellence in education and is the best value for taxpayers in San Mateo County.

Dramatic funding cuts are the biggest challenge facing the District. My professional experience in financial analysis at some of the nation's major financial institutions, including the Nasdaq Stock Market, will be an important asset to the District during these difficult times.

Success in California's damaged economy depends upon students being better prepared for the workplace. Serving on the California Commission for Economic Development and the Sequoia Union High School District's Career Technical Education Steering Committee, I understand how our District must lead the way in providing more career opportunities for non-college bound students while retaining our first-rate college preparatory curriculum.

Community involvement is crucial for schools and students to succeed. Therefore, I serve on the Sequoia High School Education Foundation Board and volunteered as a tutor at East Palo Alto Charter School. As past PTA President of Las Lomitas Elementary School and former Executive Committee member of the Las Lomitas Education Foundation, I helped sustain art, music, and other classroom programs.

To protect our children's education and prepare them for the future, I ask for your vote.
