Candidate for
Board Member; Broadmoor Police Protection District

Hanley Chan was born and raised in San Francisco. His parents emigrated here from China in the 1960s, and worked in the restaurant business.

He attended Francisco Middle School, Independence High School, and City College of San Francisco, where he received an AS in Administration of Justice. He then attended New College of California for his BA in Humanities

He now resides in the Broadmoor Protection District, and is ready and willing to serve the constituents and growing minorities as an accountable, transparent, and able Broadmoor Police Commissioner. Officer Chan looks forward to serving the community and working on the Police Commission's behalf to make Broadmoor a better and safer place.

In addition to serving as a Patrol Special Police Officer, Hanley continues to study and plans to focus on Chinese medicine.

Hanley Chan is committed to delivering on his pledges. Pledges that include:

  • Implementing a language access program in for our growing minority population of Filipinos/ Asians and Hispanics.
  • Creating a program for the youth with police participation and supervision.
  • Forming a subcommittee, made up of residents (Precinct Captains) who give an on-the-ground grassroots assessment of what needs should be addressed around our neighborhoods.

As a child and young adult, police officers were Hanley Chan's role models. He admired the way police officers were able to help people in his community through protection and deterrence. This eventually inspired Officer Chan to serve in law enforcement.

Military Experience Hanley Chan's military experience includes serving in the Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman and the National Guard as an Armor Crewman.

Patrolman For 7 years, he has patrolled the streets of San Francisco as a Patrol Special Officer. As Vice President of the San Francisco Patrol Special Police Officer Association, Chan consistently led negotiations to bring in more patrol specials on the beat and to protect the merchants of the city.

Ranger In 2006, he co-founded the SF Park Ranger Association.

Officer Chan is a member of the Reserve POA and the National Latino POA, among other community clubs. He is a proven leader among law enforcement officers, rising through the ranks, and a community organizer who engages in substantive service to the residents.

  • Federal Appointment to the Selective Service System board by the President of USA
  • Member, Reserve Police Officer Association (RPOA)
  • Member, National Latino Peace Officers Association
