The highest priority is to work with the California League of Cities to ensure that the Governor and Legislature do not strip our city of necessary funding. Additional taking of city funds would have a serious adverse impact on the ability to provide quality service to our residents.

As the Sunnyvale representative on the Employee Relations Committee for the California League of Cities, I will be working on public employee pension reform and reducing public employees' pension costs to our city. It is essential that the cities reduce cost and yet find a way to provide a good retirement plan for employees.

I am currently the Sunnyvale representative on the Children, Health and Human Services of the National League of Cities. It is critical that children have the ability to learn well. Children who can read have the best chance of success in our society. It is the reason why as Mayor, I created a blue ribbon committee and worked with members of the community and educational leaders to build a program to address our reading skills and establish raising readers in Sunnyvale.
