I was surprised to find the Smart Voter does not have a place for the ballot statement, which I believe should reflect a candidates values in addition to accomplishments. My ballot statement is below.

Ballot statement:

I am honored to serve you as Governing Board Member of the largest elementary (K-8) school district in northern California. During my service, we have significantly strengthened our schools--test scores consistently rank us in the top 2% of school districts statewide.

Our strong financial controls, careful spending, and passage of Measure B have allowed us to enhance and strengthen already successful academic programs while keeping cuts away from the classroom and avoiding layoffs. Progress continues despite severe statewide cuts to public education and budget uncertainty in Sacramento.

Our community-at-large also benefits from the academic success of our students. Because of the quality of our schools, I believe, declines in home equity in our community are relatively minimal. Community support for strong schools enhances the quality of life for everyone.

With your support, I will continue our focus on quality education for all students, strategic innovation, strict accountability, and responsible fiscal management. Let's continue to strengthen our schools and our community!
