Statement of COREY A. LEVENS, Candidate for
Member, Palo Alto City Council
Occupation: Corporate Atty; education, neighborhood activist; former small business owner
Education and Qualifications:           Age: 53
Haverford College, BA; Univ. of Chicago, MBA; CPA; Univ. of Illinois, JD
12 years on the Nixon, Terman, Gunn School Site Councils (4 yrs each); member, High School Task Force; Board member, Greenacres Neighborhood Assn; Board member, Stanford Campus Recreation Assn.
20 years ago, my wife and I moved to Palo Alto to raise our family, pursue our careers, and live in a city which shared our values. But in those 20 years, we watched as Palo Alto leadership consistently failed to confront issues threatening our families and quality of life. Today, we need leaders to resolve at least six major challenges: Eliminating huge budget deficits; reversing the decline in revenues; encouraging development without compromising quality of life; fixing deteriorating infrastructure; addressing complex housing issues; and high speed rail.
The new Council needs an infusion of leadership and courage, backed by real-world skills, knowledge and experience. I practice business law, have owned and operated a small retail business, and am deeply involved in local neighborhood and school organizations. I believe I can make a fundamental difference in people's lives, and am committed to working tirelessly to make Palo Alto stronger and better for you and for my family.
