Collaborate with the City of Salinas to maintain safe school sites. Alisal is a Peace Builder district. Alisal USD takes credit for launching the community discussion regarding City libraries issuing library cards to each public school student city-wide. This is a great advancement toward a more highly literate community.

This is how:

Create a parallel (Alisal) Education Foundation

Approach Hartnell College to bring Alisal students to

Hartnell Science Day (Fair) including Astronomy

Spearhead the Reading First Initiative

Collaborate with City Libraries to make sure every student receives a library card

Sponsor the only Public Charter School in Salinas (Oasis)

Lead the fight against wrongful State policies that hurt our students

Pilot unique programs such as Kinder-Plus pushing literacy in Kindergarten

Gary has complemented his Board service by representing Alisal on the Sunrise House Board and Partners for Peace.
