Putting Students First

By Mark Steffen

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Torrance Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
As a teacher in South Bay public schools for 26 years, and a parent of children who have graduated from Torrance schools, I have an understanding of the needs of students, teachers, and parents. I have also gained vital experience with school budgets, facilities management, and modernization of schools during my tenure as Director of Maintenance for a local South Bay public school district. I believe that these experiences as well as the experience I have received as a member of the TUSD School Board will help to ensure Torrance School District works through the serious state budget problems and successfully completes modernization and new construction projects. I also believe that I can help TUSD to keep its quality teachers as well as recruit and train teachers who will maintain a high quality educational program. Quality educational programs are vital to guarantee success for our students. Without providing teachers and staff with all the resources they need, students can not realize their potential. Restoring programs, staff, and making certain our limited funds are used responsibly will be my guiding principles for maintaining quality schools in our community.
