Why I am running for City Clerk

By Norb Huber

Candidate for City Clerk; City of Hawthorne

This information is provided by the candidate
I wish to provide the citizens of Hawthorne with independent leadership in the office of City Clerk
Why am I running for Hawthorne City Clerk? After 32 years of living in Hawthorne, I think I know our fine city and the many challenges we face to keep it safe and a healthy place in which to raise our families.

I wish to use my experience to:

- provide independent leadership in our city's governing agencies.

- act as a check against misuse of power by our city council, mayor or any other city official

- rebuild our city's image by assuring residents that our city's government is honest, fair and above any type of "conflict of interest" or under-the-table politics.

What makes me feel that I can provide this type of clean, honest, independent leadership?

I have taken a stand to not be part of any "ticket" or slate of candidates that one or both of our mayoral candidates may promote. I feel that the City Clerk should be "independent" of any one candidate since the City Clerk's office is the supervisor of city elections and the overseer of campaign fair practices.

How do I know that I am strong enough to stand up to political challenge or pressure?

Fight against Too Many School Bonds
- I have been the leader of opposition to several property tax bond elections that have continued to put an uneven and unfair financial burden on Hawthorne homeowners. I was the only Hawthorne leader to fight hard to stop these bonds from passing. Almost all of our city "politicians" endorsed every school bonds that were proposed and passed in the last 10 years.

Campaign Flyer ignites threats of Violence
- I took a stand against "shady" politics in the past city's election two years ago. By simply distributing a campaign flyer that the current city council majority did not like, I was called a "closet coward", I was threatened physically by a city councilman saying that he had the right to jump over the speaker's podium and "punch my lights out". I did not cave into their pressure tactics and I still stand by my statements I made two years ago. I want the City of Hawthorne to be run with clean and honest leadership.
