Dear Neighbor,

I am asking the opportunity to once again serve you as an East Norriton Township Supervisor. I was honored when you elected me to a four year term which started in 2006.

I asked that you consider me for election in 2005 for two main reasons. The first was to show the value of the voter elected 5 member board of supervisors, and secondly to improve public safety. Over the last four years I believe I have represented the best interests of East Norriton Township as a whole. In my effort to serve the residence of East Norriton Township I have completed the following:

  • Evaluated considerations before the board to determine the positive and negative impacts of any decision for the greater good of the township
  • Completed Pennsylvania Governor's Center for Local Government Services Newly Elected Officials training.
  • Department of Labor and Industry Uniform Construction Code Certification, expires May 2010. This provided me with a greater understanding of the Uniform Construction Code and how it is applied.
  • Re-certified as a Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Coordinated Hydrogen Cyanide Emergency Responder Training with University of Pennsylvania.
  • Requested Senate of Pennsylvania to consider broaden Senate Bill 433 (2007) to include reimbursement to local fire departments for clean up of environmental hazards.
  • Completed all National Incident Management courses, ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800. (Incident Command System = ICS).
  • Facilitated the team training of our Police, Fire, Code Enforcement, and Township Management through the ICS 300 and 400 training curriculum. Never before have such a broad group of township agencies trained together to benefit public safety. Worked with our Public Works department who as a team completed their NIMS-IS-700 training.
  • Maintained Active status as a member of the Norriton Fire Engine Company
  • Active member of the Montgomery County Incident Support Team. Completed National Fire Academy All Hazards Incident Management Team training.
  • Completed Texas Engineering Extension Service Threat and Risk Assessment Course. This training assists with establishing priorities under the National Response Framework to include National Planning Scenarios and Target Capabilities
  • Completed Williams Responding to Pipeline Emergencies. This pipeline bi-sects the township from the Norristown Farm Park, North Wales Road to Township Line Road.

  • Program Manager for PA-CO 2, Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force and PEMA Technical Rescue Team. Achieved "Deployable" status January 9, 2009. As part of the tiered response model, this will enable municipalities to reduce duplication of very expensive technical rescue equipment that has a low frequency of use, and call upon this specialized team when needed for significant technical rescue scenarios.
  • Chairman Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force, Fire Work Group. This is also part of the tiered response model but specifically for fire fighting. This task force can supply a requesting municipality up to 240 responders from the 5 county region.
  • Selected to serve a 1 year term on the Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue Response System Advisory Committee assisting PEMA representing PA-CO 2 (Southeast), Squad 1 (East Central), and PA-CO 3 (Northeast).

I am asking your support so we can work on the following critical issues over the next few years.
  • Continue to be fiscally responsible
  • Continue to improve Public Safety
  • Work on Green Initiatives that have well defined or proven return on investment
  • Permanently protect the Norristown Farm Park
  • Prepare for the 2011 electric rate cap expiration affecting residents, business and township facilities.

Thank you for your support

Jim Staufenberg
