Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Barbara May

Candidate for
Judge; Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas; District 38

This information is provided by the candidate

It is with the deepest of humility and the highest of sincerity that I seek a position in the judiciary and ask for your support.

I have been a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a dedicated American, serving as the youth campaign coordinator for Congressman Larry Coughlin, press advance team member of Presidents Ford and Reagan, PA State YR secretary, National Miss YR, campaign volunteer in multiple elections and Committeewoman in Franconia NW under the leadership of Bob Godshall.

My legal philosophy (in concert with my political beliefs) is that of conservatism - law and order based with strict adherence to the Constitution and the letter and spirit of the law. My years of teaching in the police academy, as well as in undergraduate criminal justice and business law, have reinforced the importance of safeguarding laws and policies that protect our citizens and enable law enforcement to pursue that end. From my substantive and procedural knowledge in academics, I have acquired a firm base from which to practice law.

My years as an attorney have included a Superior Court clerkship, an instructor position teaching legal writing / moot court at Widener Law, research counsel to various firms and continuing pro bono work that has produced favorable results to those who seek my legal assistance. Through personal experience, I witnessed first hand the inequities in the judicial process. This motivated me to pursue a law degree with the intention of service, not monetary gain. And I have kept that promise, never having turned away anyone in need of legitimate legal assistance.

Unique to my resume is my background in philosophy, focusing upon ethics at the university and community college levels and my authorship of an ethics course for law enforcement at MCCC, now a required course for criminal justice majors. My teaching experience, inclusive of high school level to graduate school, has provided me with well defined communication skills and enhanced rapport with youth, parents and students of all backgrounds, abilities, issues and interests.

My campaign is distinctive in its focus upon a new judicial image rather than a financial basis. Often the financial obligations to my family have precluded my attendance at political fundraisers as well as memberships in bar associations and professional organizations, this goal of pursuing a judicial position is based upon dedication and integrity and not upon any expectation of support based upon prior monetary contributions.

As a judicial candidate, I do not have an affiliation with a major law firm. This will insure that I will not have any predisposed loyalties. My approach will be pristine, independent and in compliance with the spirit and letter of the law.

I can assure you that I will represent you well, serve with dignity, dedication, ethics and intellect. I can promise my unwavering commitment and hope that I merit your consideration.

Please accept my appreciation for your time and consideration.
