Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Kerry I. Litvin

Candidate for
School Director; Abington School District

This information is provided by the candidate

1) Provide the students of Abington with a public education that is second to none.

2) Ensure that the residents of this township are not being unduly taxed...in other words make sure that those who are putting the bill are getting the best possible education bang for their bucks.

3) Remove as much bureaucracy as is reasonably possible in order to ensure that there are always open and clear lines of communications between the school administration, the board, the teachers, the students and their parents, as well as the residents of Abington Township.

4) Education and the educational process should be in local hands and not controlled or dictated by a disconnected bureaucracy remotely located in Harrisburg or Washington D.C. who have imposed mandates, many of which are unfunded. The excellent quality of our graduates is the real-world confirmation that the Abington School District is functioning as intended.

5) Social engineering, agenda driven education, revisionist history, and moral equivalency have no place in our public schools. I will work to ensure that this remains the case. I strongly encourage scholarly debate during which various viewpoints can be expressed, the difference between fact and opinion should be made very clear to the students and to their parents. The teachers and students should express their opinions, but there must be intellectual debate within the classroom regarding these opinions. As the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan used to say, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts."

6) Every child graduating from Abington High School must be proficient in the English language before receiving his or her diploma.

7) The educational process should be exciting, interesting, enjoyable, yet also challenging and intellectually stimulating for all those involved.
