Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Lin Axamethy Floyd

Candidate for
Township Commissioner; Township of Nether Providence; Ward 4

This information is provided by the candidate

The NPT 4th Ward placed its trust in me to serve as its commissioner four years ago and I have worked hard to justify that trust. As president of the Board of Commissioners these past four years I have focused on opening our local government to all residents with the following outcomes:

  • Revised administrative procedures: open posting of Township positions, centralizing administrative functions, transferring Township pension fund oversight, refinancing Township debt in the fall of 2008 which lowered interest rate by over a full point.
  • Recycling Task Force to study options for NPT with a January 2009 transition to a single-stream recycling program that meets state requirements, increasing recycled volume 300% and significantly reducing our costs for burning trash at the Chester incinerator.
  • Energy Committee to reduce utility costs and seek outside funding for more efficient systems.
  • "Walkable Wallingford" Task Force to improve safety for pedestrians using our sidewalks and walkways and to seek outside funding for these projects.

I continue to act with awareness that our Nether Providence Township community of 14,000 is big enough to have all the complexities and pressures of modern life, and yet is small enough for us to work together constructively to handle those issues face to face.

Our community includes those whose families have lived in NPT for generations as well as those who are newly settled here. Good ideas come from all quarters. Respectful debate produces creative solutions. Especially in these difficult economic times, we need a team of elected officials that will continue to serve the residents of NPT with that attitude.
