Community Oriented

By Karen McLellan

Candidate for Judge; Magisterial District Court; District 05-02-40

This information is provided by the candidate
The office of District Judge is a community office and as such needs to be far reaching into the neighborhoods that it serves.
I believe in giving back. I have been very fortunate in life and I believe that the only way for that to continue is to give back.

I would like to expand the community service segment of the Office to include mentors in a variety of fields. Hoping that if we can spark interest in our youth that could possibly lead to employment, we can break the recidivism cycle that seems to plague our entire community.

I have been involved with many community organizations and functions. I am currently the Spring Hill Civic League's secretary and have been a member since 1984. I am a member of the Northside Public Safety Council where I bring the information learned there back and share it with my neighborhood. I am a member of TreeVitalize and have participated in tree planting in the Northside. I support many of the community functions throughout Northside.

I also volunteer with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Radio Information Service Pittsburgh (which is a radio reading service for the blind and physically handicapped) and with a peer support group the Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
