Proposed Budget Cuts

By Susan Hendler

Candidate for Member, Board of Education; Rye City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The proposed budget cuts for this year are great for lowering our taxes, but is it going to effect our quality of education?
On the proposed budget, the teacher mentoring program was cut. What is going to happen now when a brand new teacher hired comes into our district? Without the help of a mentor or a support group, this teacher will be on his/her own. Is that what I want for my child's teacher? To be left out in the cold?

In addition, summer school was cut. Summer school was a great way for children who needed extra help and individualized attention to review curriculum over the summer. It may even help a child catch up to other students on grade level.

If an educator was on the board, maybe some of these cuts wouldn't have been made. These are 2 cuts alone might effect the future quality of our education.
