Protecting our Quality of Life

It is the reason why people move to a city or why they choose to remain. My family and I were drawn to Glendale forty years ago for the good schools, low crime rate, and a prudent government. We still have good schools and a low crime rate, but in terms of its fiscal policy, the city has changed drastically.

Over the last few years, Glendale government has been overspending by raiding the city reserves, reducing capital improvements and borrowing excessively with bond money. As the City Council approved increases in fees, taxes and permits, it has been awarding excessive salaries and benefits to an already bloated city staff.

The City Council has balanced the budget on the backs of seniors on fixed incomes, youth programs in our parks, and small business owners. Many are just barely holding on in this financial crisis. A just government must be a prudent government. We have lost our way.

During my 28-year career in Pasadena, including serving as police chief and special assistant to the city manager, I was responsible for providing a safe city while offering prudent and responsive city services. We can regain our status as a financially healthy city that is devoted to seniors, youth, and families.

I am asking you to support our shared vision.

Glendale. Our City. Our Future. http://www.PhilpottForCouncil.com
