? 1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Sharon Tyus:

I served twelve years as the Alderwoman of 20th Ward. I have the actual local legislative experience serving the community along with the educational background I believe necessary to be an informed, active, and effective legislator. I also have a background in development which helps me to navigate the development process for my community.

During that time the 20th Ward had unprecedented development of over $35 million dollars, including a New Lexington Elementary School , New Schnucks City Plaza , two new strip malls, Walgreens, Mercantile Bank, the Philips 66 Gas Station with a drive through car wash, new homes, rehabbed homes, and three new churches. Many of these things other neighborhoods take for granted however, most of the large development items I mentioned were the first in North St. Louis .

? 2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (50 word limit)

Answer from Sharon Tyus:

1 Neighborhood Development. I will accomplish this by re-establishing the aggressive and progressive Economic Development that had occurred in the community under my tenure as Alderwoman of the 20th Ward. 2 I will be an accessible and visible Alderwoman. This means re-establishing the resident's accessibility to the Alderperson in the Community. I will and have always returned phone calls, and held regularly scheduled open Ward meeting, along with attending police meetings and community meetings. This enables the community to communicate what their need are and for me to communicate with them about how I will go about implementing solutions to the concerns they have indicated to me.
3.Neighborhood Stablization. Meeting with residents, the police, the churches, the building division, governmental agencies, and businesses to help formulate the best way we can work together to help fight crime and neighborhood deterioration.
I will not promote that the residents give up hope and arm themselves to protect themselves. I believe in the 2nd Amendment but believe it is irresponsible for an elected official to go on local and public television promoting a wild wild west solution.
