Mary Sue Maurer currently serves as the Mayor of the City of Calabasas. She was elected to the Calabasas City Council in 2005 and is committed to continuing the City's legacy of environmental preservation and small town ambiance. She serves the residents of Calabasas in a spirit of collaboration with a commitment to the shared values that make Calabasas one of the most desirable places to live in California. She lives with her three sons, two of whom attend A.C. Stelle Middle School and the eldest is a senior at The Hotchkiss School.

Maurer was instrumental in creating legislation that prohibits the use polystyrene (Styrofoam) packaging by retail food establishments. She spearheaded an amendment to the original secondhand smoke control ordinance that now requires 80% of apartment buildings in Calabasas to be smoke-free by 2012. For this effort, she was recognized by the California Apartment Association for her collaborative efforts with apartment managers/owners and public health advocates.

She also developed many Calabasas programs including: a joint exercise with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to create an annual drive-through flu shot clinic in preparation for a possible mass inoculation event; a partnership with the Calabasas Rotary Club to assist families in crisis; and promotion of the Los Angeles County Reserve Deputy program, and other emergency preparedness programs for civilians. Prior to her election to office, Maurer was a community organizer for educational issues and championed the successful campaign to build Alice C. Stelle Middle School in Calabasas. She has a long-standing record as a public servant, most recently serving as a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, a Field Deputy to former Assemblymember and now Senator Fran Pavley, and a Deputy Press Secretary to former Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi. In the private sector, she worked in the public relations divisions of The Walt Disney Company and Blue Shield of California. She is currently a member of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee, the Headwaters Corner board, the Big Sunday board, and is team parent for her sons' roller hockey team. For fun, she currently plays center field on a local co-ed softball team.
