Smart Voter Political Philosophy for George Bird

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Palos Verdes Estates

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe that Palos Verdes Estates is one of the finest communities on earth in which to live. I am running for the City Council in the March 3rd election to preserve the quality of life that currently exists in our City, to maintain the fiscal integrity of the work currently being done by the City Council, and to preserve and enhance the beauty of our City.

I currently serve as Chairman of the PVE Planning Commission and have worked to retain our City's unique residential character, and to improve the Neighborhood Compatibility guidelines. I believe that it is imperative that all residents are recognized in the process of hearing matters on the Planning Commission, and that fairness and reasonableness prevail.

I am an active participant in community service, and have volunteered as a Board Member and as Past-President of the Harbor Regional Center which provides services to developmentally disabled children and adults. I have served on the Board of Trustees of Riveria United Methodist Church. I am a former President of the South Bay Bar Association, current Trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, former Cub Master of our son's Cub Scout Pack 863, and am currently a member of the Palos Verdes Golf Club and the Palos Verdes Breakfast Club.

My wife, Karen, and I are residents of PVE, along with our son Hunter, who is attending UCLA as a freshman where he is majoring in Musical Theatre, and our youngest son Cameron, who is a sophomore at Palos Verdes HIgh School. To those who know our family, you know that we are all active members of our community.

In the last few years I have presented an evening program at our local schools for parents and students called "Street Smarts 101" The program consists of a discussion by a panel comprised of an expert in adolescent addiction and treatment, Dr. Greg Allen, a juvenile judge, a member of the local police department and a local parent who has dealt with these issues. The PVHS PTA has scheduled the next program on February 26 at the school.

If elected, I will serve as an open and responsive community representative to address the issues that our citizens identify as priorities. I request your vote on March 3rd.
