Security for Every Family

By Joe Pitts

Candidate for US Representative; District 16

This information is provided by the candidate
Every American family should be able to work for the things they need in life. Every American family should feel secure from threats abroad.
Pennsylvania families are worried about their economic security just as much as they are worried about national security. They are worried about saving enough for retirement. They are worried about saving enough so their children can afford college. They are worried about the price of health insurance. They are worried about the declining value of their homes. Each of these worries is a priority for me.

I was a strong supporter of the law that now allows Americans to save more in 401(k)s, IRAs, and Section 529 college saving plans. But those investments won't serve us well unless we have an economy that allows them to grow as we need them to. We need trade policies, tax policies, and regulatory policies that will fire the engine of the American economy, while also keeping greed and irresponsibility from ruining things. We need a healthcare system that harnesses the benefits of free market competition without compromising compassion and fairness. No American should have to go without healthcare when they need it.

The American people also want to know that terrorism will not return to our homeland. A sensible foreign policy, a strong and capable military, and constant vigilance are the keys to this. The threat of terrorism is not gone, but I believe the terrorists are weakened. I believe mistakes were made in Iraq and Afghanistan. But I also believe that Al Qaeda and its allies have learned that America will not retreat or give up on freedom and security. That message has been delivered by our fighting men and women, who have served their country magnificently.
