STRENGTHEN OUR ENERGY RESOURCES

By Philip J. Avillo, Jr.

Candidate for US Representative; District 19

This information is provided by the candidate
Over seven years have passed since the September 11 attacks and our country still lacks a comprehensive energy policy designed to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and to end our dependency on foreign oil. The President said that Americans are "addicted" to oil. Worse, we are hostages to oil - Middle Eastern oil in particular.

Meanwhile, oil prices and not surprisingly, oil profits, have soared. These oil company profits come at a very high price. They undermine America's economic health. They impose their heaviest burden on average working people who struggle to find the money in their household budgets to feed these unseemly oil-company profits.

As your Congressman I will work to create a comprehensive energy program immediately, a contemporary Manhattan Project, that:

  • Implements economic incentives to conserve fuel.
  • Increases CAFÉ standards for all vehicles to 50 mpg by 2020.
  • Offers tax incentives to individuals and corporations that purchase renewable energy systems.
  • Supports the states that develop their own programs, such as the one Governor Rendell and York County's Eugene DePasquale have initiated for Pennsylvania.
  • Requires a rapid conversion of the United States into a technological, industrialized nation driven primarily by renewable sources of energy such as bio fuels, solar power, water power, and wind power.

We need to act now, immediately, to place the United States on the road to energy independence. The need has existed far too long, but the political will has been lacking. I will bring that political will to Congress.
