Local Roots

I was born in 1962 in the Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati. My father is a retired plumber spending most of his career at the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority and the City of Cincinnati. My mother left a job at the University of Cincinnati to raise my younger brother and me. When we old enough my mother went back to work, retiring from the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. My parents still live in the house where I grew up. When you ask, "Where did you go to school?" I'll proudly tell you Elder High School.

Hometown Educated

Growing up as plumber's helper to my dad, I discovered the value of hard work. College for me was a given. My dad would always tell me to get an education so that I could work with my head, not with my hands. Considering my paternal grandfather was a Pullman conductor and my maternal grandfather worked with barges on the Ohio River, I guess I was destined for a job in transportation. In 1986 I earned my Bachelors of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. In 1990 I obtained my registration as a professional engineer.

Ohio Based Professional Career

For nearly 20 years I have worked as a transportation engineer in both the public and private sector. I am very proud of the contributions I have made as an engineer. You likely drive over my life's work on a daily basis. I have had design and management responsibility on projects from Beechmont Avenue Improvements to the major Fort Washington Way Reconfiguration that opened in 2000. I believe the skills needed in budget, management and leadership as an engineer translate directly into public office. Engineers work in teams to get things done. The most satisfying part of being an engineer is the "concrete" contributions I have made to people's lives.

Committed to Family and Community

I am active in my church, serving on the pastoral council and in leadership roles on several ministries. In my free time I enjoy travel, reading and music. When I can make it to the great outdoors, I am as likely to spend the time underground exploring a cave system, as hiking through the woods.

When Lucy and I first married, we settled in Mt. Washington. We are currently living with our little boy and two teenage girls in Anderson Township.
