Support for universal healthcare

By Jeanette Mott Oxford

Candidate for State Representative; District 59

This information is provided by the candidate
The cost of uncompensated care drives up healthcare costs for all of us. Universal coverage is the best solution.
I am pleased to join healthcare workers and community organizations throughout the state who support H.R. 676. Like them, I am a supporter of Congressman Conyers' legislation to create a national health plan.

During the 2008 Legislative Session I filed House Concurrent Resolution 42 in support of the Conyers' bill, with the strong backing of the AFL-CIO.

Unfortunately the resolution was not granted a hearing. Our resolution deserved an open and honest debate, and no one knows that better than the more than 700,000 Missourians who lack health insurance, including the 180,000+ who have lost coverage due to GOP-backed Medicaid cuts since 2005.

It is time to solve the U.S. healthcare crisis by enacting the strong reform in H.R. 676.
