Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Mimi Walters

Candidate for
State Senator; District 33

This information is provided by the candidate

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: Illegal immigration is a drain on taxpayers and a threat to our security. The federal government has let us down by not doing its job to stop illegal immigration. I believe the state needs to take action on its own to stem the flow of illegal aliens across our border. As your Senator, I will work to:

Make sure illegal aliens do not receive taxpayer funded benefits such as welfare and in-state tuition. Require local and state law enforcement personnel to enforce immigration laws. Assign the California National Guard to protect our border if the Federal Government refuses to beef-up border patrols or complete the border fence authorized by Congress last year.

TAXES AND SPENDING: State government spends and wastes too much money with little accountability. To keep up with all the spending, liberals in Sacramento are constantly coming up with proposals to raise taxes.

I oppose all efforts to raise state taxes. I support a spending limit to slow the growth of government and balance the budget. I also support a debt limit to stop the current trend of paying for every need with tomorrow's dollar through bonded indebtedness.

PROPERTY RIGHTS: Property rights are fundamental to all our rights as citizens. In California, property rights have been under attack by governments using the power of eminent domain to seize homes, businesses and even churches for the purpose of increasing tax revenue on a piece of land. I have worked + and will continue to work, for eminent domain reform that first and foremost protects private property rights.

SCHOOLS: We are blessed with many outstanding public schools in Orange County, but in other parts of the state it is a different story. Our schools need the resources to do their job, but they also must be accountable for their performance and for how our tax dollars are spent. More resources should be directed to the classroom to help teachers and students, and less to the massive educational bureaucracy.

TRANSPORTATION The state government has neglected our roads and highways for far too long. Our transportation system, once the envy of other states, is inadequate and in disrepair. Gas taxes should go to fixing and building roads and state transportation officials should make our roads, highways and bridges the absolute top priority. I support the Foothill South extension.
