We in the Peace and Freedom Party share a vision. We believe that working-class people can and should collectively own and cooperatively run our natural resources and major industries. As humans, most of us are not motivated by greed, but by the desire to provide for our own needs and for the future. Therefore, we can figure out how to take care of ourselves, our children and our planet, instead of how to make the greatest profit.

This political philosophy is called socialism. It means creating a world where all women and men have equal status; where all individuals may freely endeavor to fulfill their own talents and desires; a world of freedom and peace where every community retains its cultural integrity and lives with all others in harmony.

We also believe in democracy. When we make decisions we must make sure that everyone has a chance to participate and that all people's rights are protected. That is why we favor a government in which everyone has an equal vote in electing representatives. We would abolish undemocratic institutions like the U.S. Senate and the electoral college.

Because we are committed to socialism, we reject the market "solutions" that both the Democrats and the Republicans offer, which they claim will fix the problems that the market created in the first place.

It sounds like an impossible dream to organize ourselves -- workers, poor people, people of all colors and nationalities -- to use for the common good the resources which rightfully ours. But if we leave the world in the hands of those who run it now, we will have endless war and misery.
