My goals and philosophy

By Jake Mackenzie

Candidate for Council Member; City of Rohnert Park

This information is provided by the candidate
Why run for a fourth time ?
I have served three terms on the Rohnert Park City Council, through some very tumultuous times. This past four years has seen a major change for the better in RP. We have a new direction and a new city manager to diract these changes.I am running again to continue to serve the citizens of RP as part of a change -driven council, while still being an independent voice on the Council, and to make sure that our new General Plan, the City's "blueprint for growth", is properly implemented.

Why vote for me again? I have proven my independence:

  • voted against salary and benefit increases the City cannot afford back in 2002 and 2004. Last year we bargained fairly aand successfukky to reduce our retiree health plan unfunded programs- we were $60million in the whole -that's now reduced to $30 million with an annual savings of ove r $2 million

  • have never taken a dime from anyone for my election campaigns. By paying for my own campaigns, I am not influenced by donors and can be truly independent in thought and deed

What have I ever done for RP? I have worked hard to represent ALL the citizens of our City, and the causes I believe in.
  • I championed the Urban Growth Boundary around RP, both before and after holding office.
  • I have devoted serious time to complex transportation issues while serving as Chair of the Sonoma Co. Transportation Authority and on the Board of Directors of SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit)
  • I have been a strong "pro-environmental" voice as this council has passed a strong Green Building ordinance and negotiated a tough Developer Agreement with University District.
  • I "show up" and support our community events and local organizations and businesses. For more information, please see my webpage at http://www.jakemackenzie.org Thank you.
