Jeff Laugero for Escalon City Council

By Jeff Laugero

Candidate for Council Member; City of Escalon

This information is provided by the candidate
A candidate with deep roots in the community you can count on to put the City of Escalon's needs and interests first!
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Jeff Laugero, a candidate for Escalon City Council.

I am currently a Deputy District Attorney for Stanislaus County. I attended Dent, El Portal, and graduated from Escalon High School. I am also a graduate of San Joaquin Delta College, California State University, Stanislaus, and Santa Clara University School of Law. I have been an attorney since 1997, and have over 15 years of law enforcement experience (both reserve and full-time) prior to becoming a Deputy District Attorney.

As a criminal prosecutor and retired police officer, public safety is one of my primary concerns. I am very familiar with programs that work to enhance public safety, which in turn improve our quality of life. I support a close working relationship between public safety officers and the community to address concerns and respond quickly and decisively to criminal activity.

As a fourth generation Escalonian, my roots in Escalon are deep. My family (which includes the Laugero, Franceschetti, and Hagan families) has been active in the community for years. My grandfather, Tom Hagan, was a veterinarian, businessman, council member and mayor of Escalon. My father was a farmer, coach, and school board member for a number of years, as was his father. A former Park Fete Grand Marshal, my grandmother, Minnie Laugero, is quite frankly a pillar of the community and legend at Escalon Premier Brands. Following in their footsteps, I have volunteered my time in an effort to serve our community. I, along with my wife Irene, were parent volunteers in our daughter's classroom for several years; I have been a T-ball and little league coach; I am one of the attorney coaches for the Escalon High School Mock Trial Team; and I was selected and served as a community member on a City of Escalon Ad Hoc Budget Committee and the most recent General Plan Update Committee. My wife is also active in the community. She is the junior varsity volleyball coach at Escalon High School, and the director of a non-profit youth volleyball organization which encourages youth participation in athletics through competitive volleyball. She is also a volunteer coordinator with the highly successful Every 15 Minute Drunk Driving Program, and has previously served as a Commissioner on the Escalon Recreation Committee. My family and I believe in public service and working to improve our community. The consequences, particularly to our kids and seniors, of failing to get involved far outweigh the minimal investment of individual time and effort. Think of the opportunities and services that would be lost without our community volunteers - from rec coaches to those assisting with the senior lunch program. As a council member for the City of Escalon, I hope to continue in this tradition of service to our community.

There are a number of reasons why people want to live in Escalon. By far the most common reason is the safe, small town environment we enjoy. Our growth ordinance has been instrumental in maintaining our community standards. Together with quality schools and services, Escalon provides a quality of life difficult to match. It is not my goal to just maintain the quality of life we enjoy here, but to continue to improve it. Poor traffic flow and train disruptions are just two examples of areas that require attention. Through infrastructure improvements, high quality public service, a focus on senior and youth needs, and a responsive City Council, the qualities we love about Escalon can be enhanced, and the areas that need attention and improvement can be addressed. Join me in this endeavor, and vote Jeff Laugero for Escalon City Council this Election Day, November 4, 2008!
