JAIME MERCADO Incumbent/Vice President, Sweetwater Union High School District Board of Trustees, Retired Principal

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS BOARD MEMBER: During budget crisis maintained student programs and prevented layoffs of permanent employees. Increased student attendance, academic achievement, graduation rate, college enrollment, and reduced drop out rate. Organized volunteer doctor services in various schools, spearheaded task force to build vocational/technical training center. Reduced wasteful spending, recovered millions from contractors' substandard work, modernized/built new schools.

EXPERIENCE: Sweetwater Board Member 4 years, Principal of the Year, South Bay resident 53 years, Sweetwater Educator 32 years...aide, teacher, assistant principal, principal in junior/senior high and adult schools. My schools received State/National recognition for increased college enrollment, improved academic achievement, vocational/technical training, health/counseling programs, partnerships with government/industry for vocational training.

GOALS: Build vocational/technical/career training center for students who don't attend college, increase graduation rate and college enrollment, improve health services in all schools, Promote student safety, athletics, the arts. Fight against issues that adversely affect students, school programs, and employees. Be taxpayers' watchdog.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: US Dept of Education, Juvenile Justice Commission, Teacher Licensing, Boys/Girls Club, Salvation Army, SD Parks and Recreation, American GI Forum, California Health Centers, Homeless/Neglected Children, Youth for Progress.

VOTE JAIME MERCADO: COMMITTED TO STUDENTS, PARENTS, SCHOOL EMPLOYEES, AND TAXPAYERS
