Parks and Recreation Facilities and Opportunities

By Ginger Summit

Candidate for Council Member; Town of Los Altos Hills

This information is provided by the candidate
Los Altos Hills is currently upgrading and expanding the recreation facilities for use of all residents in the town.
The town of Los Altos Hills has many different types of recreation facilities to provide for the broad interests of its many residents. With the recent sale of town-owned property and funds from Park bonds, we have embarked on an ambitious program to upgrade these facilities.

The Little League Fields will profit from major improvements in drainage, fencing and landscaping. The extensive Pathway system is being enhanced by continued improvements in existing pathways, as well as addition of new links identified in the Master Path Plan. Westwind Barn, which was given to the town in the 1970s, will be undergoing a major retrofit to bring it up to earthquake standards. Now that the management of the barn has been assumed by the town, plans have been made to move ahead with improvements. Architectural plans have been approved, and the Town will match donations from private donors to complete this project.

It is important to maintain the facilities we currently own, while exploring new opportunities, such as agreement with the Los Altos School District for use of the multi-use room and playgrounds in our newly reopened public school after school hours. In addition, I would like to see expanded recreational programs for the seniors who reside in town. The Parks and Recreation staff is identifying appropriate activities for this underserved group, and I wish to encourage this effort, in addition to meeting the needs of the new residents with young children.
