Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Diane T. Gordon

Candidate for
Board Member; Campbell Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

For the last four years, I have been motivated by my belief that high performing schools build strong communities. I remind myself daily that students must come first, that Board members must provide the best educational opportunities for all students and must maintain fiscal stability through proper stewardship of the district finances.

Campbell Union High School District has accomplished a lot. All five of our comprehensive high schools are now California Distinguished schools. Test scores have shown improvement at all sites over the last four years. We have also worked hard to build a more collaborative environment which has improved relationships with our community stakeholders and fostered relationships with businesses and foundations. To avoid program cuts and increasing class size the community approved parcel tax was used to backfill state cuts, and expand course offerings while maintaing a balanced budget.

We have successfully completed the first phase of our bond projects which included new/remodeled science facilities and class rooms. The second phase of construction will begin soon.

Going forward we need to build on the partnerships that have been established, strengthen our collaborative environment, continue to maintain a balanced budget and be open to changes in curriculum that will improve educational opportunities.
