Mary Emerson is a 19-year resident of Santa Clara. She loves Santa Clara and often encourages friends, family and co-workers to move here. Among the many reasons are Silicon Valley Power (she's a long-time subscriber to Green Power), and the city's great quality of life -- the result of balancing good services with fiscal responsibility.

Mary and her neighbors have worked with the City's traffic engineers on traffic calming measures for their Newhall St. neighborhood. They continue to be active in organizing local events like National Night Out.

Mary has done fundraising for Pajaro Valley Shelter Services of Watsonville, a shelter for homeless women, children and families. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Mary is a registered Democrat. She has helped organize and participated in get-out-the-vote activities, and was a volunteer for the 2004 McLeod for Council campaign.

Mary attends City Council meetings regularly. She has a particular interest in City matters related to fiscal accountability. Her interest in the City's fiscal health led her to become a founding member of Santa Clara Plays Fair, a grass-roots coalition of Santa Clara residents and neighbors who oppose the City of Santa Clara's proposed public subsidy of a stadium for the San Francisco 49ers.

Mary has extensive experience in industry, and currently works as a manager in high tech. She coaches co-workers, and volunteers as a mentor for aspiring women managers. She has masters degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research from UC Berkeley.

Mary will bring the strength of her analytical skills, education and experience in business operations to serve you on City Council.
