A Math Degree, Engineer and Community Volunteer

Charlotte believes that one person can make a difference and that each individual is important. She has consistently demonstrated this in her personal life, engineering career and family. Charlotte is a volunteer that can sense a need or will respond to a call and apply her compassion, insights and energy to make a difference.

After receiving her degree in mathematics she came to Santa Barbara for graduate studies and started her engineering career. She has developed new products for the automotive industry, leading teams of engineers to complete these programs on time and within budget. She applied her leadership skills on a variety of corporate activities including organizational management and new business development. Each of these experiences has developed and refined her skills as a big picture thinker with astute listening capability, an aptitude for analysis and synthesis of information, and an ability to propose multiple solutions that keep a focus on the common objective.

As a community volunteer, Charlotte has demonstrated that one person can make a difference. Over the last 15 years, she has actively participated on multiple school sites. Having two daughters, she has spent countless volunteer hours enriching the school experience for classmates and the school community as a whole. She has been a parent project manager, classroom tutor, cultural arts selection team leader, creator of engineering clubs, math super bowl coach, PTA officer, school site council representative, an English Learners (EL) project supporter, and served as PTA president at Goleta Valley Junior High and Dos Pueblos High School. Her direct influence has been felt on three elementary campuses and three secondary campuses. In addition, Charlotte has served on district advisory committees and participated on interview committees for district employees.

One of Charlotte's favorite quotes is from Sir Winston Churchill. "We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give." Her desire is that every student in the Santa Barbara School District receives a quality education in a safe and respectful environment. Another one of her philosophies is well stated in the Rascal Flatt song "My Wish".

"I hope you always forgive, and you never regret, And you help somebody every chance you get... ... That your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, You never need to carry more than you can hold..."

It is her wish that every student graduate equipped to be successful in their endeavors and ready to contribute to their community. One person can make a difference.
