Accomplishments San Juan Schools

This is a listing of accomplishments of the San Juan Unified School Board during the last four years.
These are some of the accomplishments of the San Juan School Board during the last four years. I have finished my first term in office and am seeking re-election. As a governing board member, I am very proud of having been a part of either initiating these actions or creating the conditions that made them happen.

1. Balanced the budget and moved to a positive financial status.
2. Developed a strategic educational plan for K-12.
3. Developed new successful programs at Encina College Preparatory High School and Jonas Salk High Tech Academy.
4. Creation of the new career technical high school programs at San Juan High School.
5. Begun the completion of Mesa Verde High School.
6. Made open enrollment more user friendly.
7. Increased the number of elementary schools with instrumental music programs.
8. Re-instated a strings program in 7 elementary schools.
9. Every school has a web site under the San Juan Umbrella and so do most teachers.
10. Increased marketing efforts to maintain enrollment.
11. Expanded the International Baccalaureate Program, especially at the middle school level.
12. Instituted K-8 Elementary schools as an alternative program.
13. Reduced the number of schools to match enrollment..
14. Re-invigoration of the San Juan Education Foundation
15. Begun collaborative school based decision making.
16. Instituted Data Director to help with formative assessments.
17. Continue to modernize school facilities.
18. Continue to attract and maintain a quality teaching force.
19. Achievement continues to increase with several distinguished schools and schools reaching the benchmark 800 API levels.
20. Held community forums to receive important community input.
21. Developing alternative education programs.
22. Implementing new student information system, which will allow parents easy access to teachers and schools online.
23. Increased the numbers of grants that support many of our after school and extra programs.
24. Increased grants to support increased use of electronic technologies in the classrooms.
25. Updating and increased use of computers in the classroom.
26. Rapid response to new laws regarding PE and nutrition in the schools.
27. Increased the participation in the highly successful and scholastically rigorous AVID program.
28. Continue to attract and maintain a quality support staff.

I feel that I have just begun on this mission of building the best school district in the state of California so our children will get the best education in the state of California. Please help me give our children not just a good education, but a great one.
