Ballot Statement

By Douglas "Doug" Hanson

Candidate for Council Member; City of Indian Wells

This information is provided by the candidate
My campaign pledge is quite simple: 1.Residents always comes first. 2. Public Safety is of the utmost importance. 3. Transparency and accountability are a must at all levels of our City Government. 4. I will insist on Fiscal Responsibility. 5. Land Development should be the Highest and Best Use for all the residents, not just a few, or for the sole benefit of the developers. 6. Obtain resident input before undertaking any major projects. 7. Ensure that all Resident Amenities remain intact to protect our property values. 8. Create an open and friendly atmosphere between the City and our Residents. As a business leader, I understand business, whether it be a large corporation or the business of the City of Indian Wells. I understand that Fiscal Responsibility is the beacon by which every Councilmember should be guided. As your representative on the City Council, my position will be to have budgets before we have projects. We will set up procedures to track our projects to ensure they are on time and on budget. We will keep the residents informed of our project progress. I will work for Transparency and Accountability throughout City Government. I will work to ensure that our business and developer partners have the financial resources necessary to complete their projects, even in a down economy. I believe some of the most important aspects to consider of any candidate are his or her qualifications and the amount of work he or she has the ability of doing if elected to the City Council. Ask yourself; does the person you are voting for have the time, the energy, the enthusiasm, the knowledge and most of all, the interest of every resident in Indian Wells? Will they work for each of the residents equally? Let me assure you I do, and I will. When elected, I will work to implement my pledges and I will also work to minimize closed door sessions, I will work to see that all Council and Committee Agenda's are published in the newspaper in advance of the meeting. I will work to put more information on the City's cable channel and to broadcast the Council meetings live for those who cannot attend the meetings in person. Furthermore and most important I will be open to suggestions, I will not make up my mind on an issue until after it has been thoroughly discussed.
